01What we do
Astoveth reviews ocean, sea and island games for players and families in the UK: diving, sailing, island survival and gentle underwater exploration. Each review comes after many evenings with the game and sets out how long a sitting usually lasts, the kind place to stop, who will enjoy it, who can contact you, what is on sale once you are in and how comfortable it is to play.
02Why a dive log?
Divers are good at stopping. They plan how long and how deep before they go in, rest on the surface between dives and always come up in time. We think an evening of games deserves the same respect, so every review is logged like a dive and the planner ends at the time screens go off.
03Who writes the reviews
A small team of players who have spent a long time underwater in games, from survival on alien seas to calm documentary dives, and parents who have tried the family settings on each platform we cover.
04Who pays for it
Nobody who makes or sells games. You will find no advertising, no affiliate links, no sponsored pieces and nothing for sale here. The site holds no games and no user accounts, and it handles no payments.
05Independence
When one of us knows a studio personally or has worked with it, a different writer takes the review and we say so on the page. Free copies, trips and gifts are never a condition of coverage, and we turn down any that come with one.
06The artwork
Every banner is an original illustration made for Astoveth in that game’s own visual style: photographic blue water for one, painted cartoon waves for another, cel-shaded sails for a third. Not one of them is a screenshot, studio artwork or a picture of a real person. Our dive-gauge emblem is our own.
07Why UK English?
We write for readers in the UK: British spelling, PEGI labels and UK help services. Nothing pops up, nothing plays by itself and nothing follows you around the web.
